Mr. Salihu Adamu Musa, INEC elections director, local government of Bokkos in the Plateau State, apologizes on Monday for the “shameful” behavior of the returning officer deployed in the region.
Musa answering a question asked by Emmanuel Bok, in charge of collecting from the APC in Pankshin, who was trying to find out why he (Musa) was reporting the election results of Bokkos instead of the returning officer as stipulated by law.
The NAN reports that Musa, party agents, observers, and INEC officials, that the returning officer, a university lecturer, was drunk this Sunday and what had been fired while He could not do his job.
“The returning officer’s attitude was appalling, he was drunk and could not do anything at all.
“I took my duties on instruction from INEC headquarters in Jos,” explained Musa.
Musa apologized to the election officials on behalf of the electorate and promised that the situation would not happen again.
Bok, who thanked Musa for the explanation, said that he had to reject the result.
“Without the explanation you gave us, I would not have accepted the results before the returning officer.
“But, if that’s what happened, then it’s very unfortunate and bad for us in our journey to deepen our democracy,” he said.
In his reaction, Mr. Mason Mahli, PDP ranking officer in the local government, appealed to INEC.
“INEC must always look for credible people for national missions as serious as this one.Electional duties are sacred tasks that must be dealt with seriously and with full commitment,” he said.
