The Nigerian army said it had deployed troops to stop reporting electoral violence in some areas of local government in Rivers.

Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, spokesman for the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, confirmed to be the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Two people were killed in Ogu, in the local government area of ​​Ogu-Bolo, during a shootout in Abonema, in the local government area of ​​Akuku Toru.

Iliyasu said: “We hear that there are skirmishes but we have not confirmed the situation yet.

“However, in order not to aggravate the situation, our team has already moved into the region to ensure that everything is happening in the region.

“So we did that for that to happen.”

Iliyasu said that the role of the army during the elections was secondary and that it was only the support of the police and other security agencies.

He added that the army would only act on the invitation of the police.

“So, if there is an urgency that would warrant our involvement, the police or any security agency will alert the nearest army team for it. calm frayed nerves, “he said.
